All told, $50,000 was distributed to be given — no strings attached — to strangers who may be in need or neighbors who are down on their luck. And there are so many things beyond the basics to buy these days. He could have given the $100,000 to his college alma mater. And for such a kind gift to higher education, he would have received a lot of justifiable publicity. Nashvillians Sowing Seeds of Kindness by Giving Tim Chavez 11/12/2002 - The workers passed the homeless couple each morning. The downtown Nashville parking garage doubled as an informal homeless shelter. Instead of being repelled, some of the workers started talking with the couple. Acquaintances became friends. As the holiday season approached last year, the workers decided on a Christmas miracle.
